This is a poster for Thomas Hansen group, showing the research goal and purpose of his group. In the poster, the cranes are a visual metaphor for the chemical tools we use in synthesis, while NanoKid represents the target compounds we want to build. The idea is simple: we use these “tools” to assemble the molecule we’re aiming for, exemplified by NanoKid, chosen specifically due to its educational purposes (an excuse) and that it is funny (real reason).
Because the poster is titled “Molecular DIY,” I leaned into the DIY part by designing the backdrop like a cutting mat. The designs are intentionally chalky, to reinforce that hands-on, make-it-yourself feeling. The crane concept was also inspired by the game Detroit: Become Human.
